Tracey Annette Morgan Downey, age 61, of Grove Hill, passed away on April 13, 2026. She was born on January 26, 1965, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her students, and her faith.
Tracey met the love of her life, Robin, while attending Mobile College, now known as the University of Mobile, beginning a marriage that would span 40 wonderful years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, faith, and shared purpose.
A dedicated educator, Tracey spent many years teaching in Clarke County Schools including Grove Hill Elementary and Thomasville City Schools, where she touched countless lives with her patience, kindness, and passion for learning. Though she retired, her calling to teach never left her, and she soon returned to the classroom at Jackson Intermediate School, continuing to inspire both students and colleagues alike.
Tracey had a deep love for music and art, gifts she shared generously with others. She taught herself how to play the piano at the age of four. As an accomplished pianist, she not only played beautifully but also taught many to appreciate and learn the instrument. She found great joy in playing piano and organ at Thomasville Methodist Church, where her music was a blessing to all who heard it.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as "Belle." She cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Tracey grew up in a home that proudly cheered for the University of Alabama, but in her heart, she remained a devoted Auburn Tigers fan, a playful testament to her independent spirit.
She will be remembered for her gentle heart, her servant's spirit, and the lasting impact she made on her community through her teaching, her music, and her love.
Tracey is survived by her parents, C.J. and Laquita Morgan; her husband, Robin Downey; her daughter, Morgan (Tyler) Elliott; her sons, Drew Downey and Seth (Michelle) Downey; grandchildren, Mark James "M.J." Downey, Scarlett Elliott, and Olivia Elliott; sisters, Paula (George) Price, Tammy (Terry) Boyd, and Allison Morgan; nieces and nephews, Avery (Brennan) Poche, Tyler (Amber) Smith, Haley Smith, Corbin Smith, Skyler Smith, and Eli Browning.
Pallbearers will be Eli Browning, Skyler Smith, Corbin Smith, Tyler Smith, Brennan Poche, Tyler Elliott, Terry Boyd, and George Price.
Honorary pallbearers will be the students, teachers, and administration of the schools where she faithfully served.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Grove Hill Baptist Church in Grove Hill, Alabama. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Bro. C.J. Morgan and Rev. Jennifer Guidoni officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery.
The family kindly requests that guests wear bright and cheerful colors in honor of Tracey's joyful spirit and the light she brought into the lives of others.
Tracey's legacy will live on in the many lives she touched and in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
