Virgie Elma Heathcoe, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away on March 11, 2024, at the age of 99. She was born on September 13, 1924, in Hobson, Alabama, to Bud and Leona Thompson.

Virgie resided in Semmes, Alabama, where she had created a lifetime of cherished memories. She was known for her warm and giving nature, always putting her family first. Virgie found joy in spending time with her loved ones and cooking delicious meals for them. Camping, attending church, going out to eat, shopping, and listening to music were some of her favorite hobbies. Her green thumb was evident through her love for flowers and gardening.

For many years, Virgie successfully managed the Lake Marie restaurant in Hobson, Alabama, leaving a lasting impression on the community. She was a dedicated wife to her late husband, Buddy Heathcoe, with whom she shared 48 years of marriage.

Virgie's greatest love was her family. She adored all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, finding immense joy in their presence.

With her unwavering faith, Virgie was a God-fearing woman who found solace and strength in her beliefs. Her devotion to her faith brought her peace and was a guiding light throughout her life. Virgie held strong to her faith, she knew and believed in her creator.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

Survived by her son Danny (Gail) Heathcoe, stepson Eric Heathcoe, sisters Frances Ledbetter, Edith Tate, brothers Jerry (Margie) Thompson, Dean (Mary Ann) Thompson, grandchildren Tracy (John) Tarver, Scott (Angela) Heathcoe, Kim (Shawn) Irwin, Neil (Brandi) Morgan, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, lots of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband R.M. "Buddy" Heathcoe, her parents Bud and Leona Thompson, daughter Faye Morgan, son-in-law- Ray Morgan, sisters Mary Katherine Manning, Sophie Grantham, Sue Coaker, Doris Beasley, Alberta Beech, brothers R.C. Thompson, Leroy Thompson, Kenneth Thompson.

Pallbearers will be Paul Manning, Robbie Tate, Dale Ledbetter, J.J. Thompson, Marty Grantham, Ken Thompson, Alford Manning. Honorary Pallbearers Scott Heathcoe, Parker Heathcoe, John Tarver, Mason Elmore, Hunter Cellon, Neil Morgan, Shawn Irwin, Jared Taylor, Justin Taylor.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, with a visitation starting at 10 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom. Bro. David and Bro. Nelson Thompson officiating. Online condolences may be shared at www.lathanfuneralhome.com
