Virginia Finney

Virginia Mae "June" Finney, 86, passed away on June 7, 2023, in Hanceville, Alabama, after a battle with dementia. She was born on June 2, 1937, in Maplesville, Alabama, to the late Gladys Jackson Bush.

June was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church & gospel singings, sewing, cooking, gardening, traveling to the mountains, as well as reading. She also baked and decorated cakes. For which she did with love for most of her family & friends. She was also an active member of her church, where she would help with most activities.

Long before having a SUV was as popular as today. June had a big blue Suburban, to help transport not only her child, grandchildren, great grandchildren, but as many neighborhood children as possible to church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Roper and Shields Finney Sr. Daughters Margaret Gates, Sandi Moore Stolze, and son Lee Finney. Grandchildren Shawn Trammell, Megan Moore, Bobby Moore, and great grandson Christopher Buckalew.

June is survived by her husband Sam Finney, daughters Cecilia (Doug) Trammell, Sheila (Larry) Wheat, Cathy (Buddy) Hughes, Karen (Boyd) Turnbow. Son Shields (Aimee) Finney, and Shannon (Kelly) Finney. As well as 24 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 21 great great-children. She is also survived by her twin sisters Linda Discoll & Peggy (Jessie) Atkins, and her brother, Buddy Melton. Along with numerous nieces & nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Amity Baptist Church on Old Line Road in Whatley. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Dan Finney officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior and interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

May her soul rest in peace, and may her loved ones find solace in the memories of her life and the love she shared with them.

Pallbearers will be Jason Gates, Christopher Plaisance, Tyler Alford, Caden Alford, Trey Kilpatrick and Glen Harvell.

Honorary pallbearers are her remaining grandsons.
