Wallace Rayford Carpenter

Wallace Rayford Carpenter, 80, of Millry, passed away December 16, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Rayford was born December 2, 1943, to parents Bodie and E.C. Carpenter. He grew up in Millry and retired from Ciba Geigy after 47 years of working in the maintenance department, he had a knack for taking care of and repairing various machinery and equipment. Rayford honorably served his country in the United States Army. He loved to hunt and be outdoors, he would go fishing whenever he could with his best fishing partner, his wife Mary. Alabama football, NASCAR, Braves Baseball, were among his favorite to watch, but most importantly was his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his life, they had many enjoyable memories together.

Preceded in death by an infant son and his parents.

Survived by his wife of 57 years Mary E. Carpenter, son Ray (Barbara) Carpenter, daughter Christy Williamson, grandchildren Courtney (Morgan) Moorer, David (Magen) Hester, Aaron (Lesley) Johnston, Todd Carpenter, RaeAnn Carpenter, great grandchildren Jace Moorer, Andi Jean Hester, AJ, Zoey, Kiley, Colton, and Easton Johnston. Sister Doris Darlene Curry, brother Dale Carpenter, also many nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.

Pallbearers will be David Hester, Morgan Moorer, Johnny Ray Curry, Teddy Gilley, Zach Jones, Jason Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be the Spring Hill Church Deacons.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Millry. Bro. Travis Agee and Bro. Harold Taylor officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
