Wilene Quimby

November 30, 1928 — December 14, 2020

Wilene Payne Quimby, 92, of Chatom changed her street address to 1 Heaven Lane on December 14, 2020. Reba Wilene Payne was born November 30, 1928 to Joe and Florence Payne of Skipperville, AL. She married Burl Quimby in July 1950. They celebrated a grand milestone of their 70th anniversary this past summer.
She was an elementary school teacher for about 35 years, mostly in first and fifth grades in Chatom, AL. She taught many students and sometimes taught their children. She often said that she retired just-in-time. She moved on to her favorite job of being a grandmother. She loved being “Ma,” and they loved being spoiled by her. She enjoyed her large circle of loving friends that gathered often to play “hand and foot.” She embraced life with humor and honesty and love of God, family, and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Burl Vickery Quimby; children, Larry Burl Quimby (Margaret), Keith Payne Quimby (Kim), Susan Quimby Ukleja (Robert); grandchildren, Laura Hanks (Nathan), Alicia Williams (Shaun with Elizabeth), Randi Quimby (Phillip Morris), Maggie Blevins (Russell with Sadie and Corie Cate); honorary grandchildren, Ashli Page and Lindsey Kirkland; brother, Wendall Payne (Mary); numerous nieces and nephews and her excellent caregivers, Dianna Davis, Mary Jackson, Sandris Jackson, Raven Knight, and Evelyn McIlwain.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Florence Payne; sister, Louise Childers and brother, Lanier Payne.
Celebration of life services will be conducted on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Chatom Baptist Church with Bro. Robert Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow at Chatom Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimbo Payne, Paul Payne, Lee Childers, Jon Odom, Eric Odom, and Aaron Kirkland. Honorary Pallbearer is Lance Childers.
