Zachary Thornton

Zachary Jeremiah “Zack” Thornton, 17, of St. Stephens, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 in Wagarville. He was born in Jackson on March 12, 2003 to Holly Morris and Jacob Thornton. A proud member of the Leroy High School Bruin Band, he was also a member of the drama club and the Vocational Technical Program. His many hobbies included fishing, hunting, video games, singing, reading and hugging.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dolly Charlotte Parnell and great-grandparents, Rufus B. Parnell, Fred and Elsie Dorman, Louis “Pete” Waddell and Wesley and Velma Thornton, and special friend, Lucie D. Lightsey.

He is survived by his mother, Holly (Chad) Morris; father, Jacob (Teresa) Thornton; siblings, Peycen Thornton, Rhiannon Morris, Will Etheridge, Dylan Etheridge, Dalton Etheridge, Lukas Thornton, Vincent Morris; maternal grandfather, Andrew (Brenda Coleman) Parnell; paternal grandparents, Tony and Renee Thornton; great-grandmothers, Barbara Waddell, Julia B. Parnell; uncles, Quinton Thornton, Keith Thornton, Andrew Parnell, Jr.; numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Clearwater Assembly of God Church in Wagarville with the Revs. Braxton Eldridge, Jimmie Butts and Rusty Parnell officiating. Visitation will be Monday, May 25, 2020 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Interment will follow the service on Tuesday at Bethel UMC Cemetery in Hawthorn with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Zane Roberts, Brandon Reeves, Jackson Reeves, Jacob McDonald, Josh Traylor and Zach Milstead.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Leroy High School Marching Bruins, the Leroy High School Class of 2021 and Vincent Morris.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the LHS Marching Bruins or the Drama Club.
