Charles Marion Rutledge

February 25, 1936 ~ November 13, 2022 (age 86)

Charles M. "Chuck" Rutledge died November 13, 2022 at his home in Tibbie surrounded by loving family. He was born February 25, 1936 and was a native of Kentucky. While serving his first 4 years in the United States Air Force he met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Vaughn, in Gulf Port, MS. While he continued his active military career as a radar operator for the US Air Force they lived in Lock Port, NY. Charles served 20 years in the Army Reserves when he returned to Kentucky. In 1984 Charles moved to Alabama with his family where he became a resident of Chatom.
Charles always had a big heart for helping anyone in need. He would always put his family first no matter what; didn't matter if you were blood or not. He was the type of person that never met a stranger. Everyone that knew him knew him as Paw Paw! He was the biggest kid, the goofiest man, the sweetest soul, the glue of the family and the most babied man. Charles was more than a role model, he was an inspiration to us all; a true example of what a husband, father, grandfather and Christian should be. He loved Jesus. He was a member of Chatom Church of God where he enjoyed fellowship and serving his Lord.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John G. and Catherine Rutledge as well as three brothers and one sister.
Charles is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Ann Rutledge; children, Jeff (Sherrie) Rutledge, Charlie (Marla) Rutledge, Debra (Duck) Beech, Cindy (Ronnie) McIlwain and John Kurtis Rutledge; 14 grandchildren, Dougy, Misty, Maranda, BethAnn, Danny, Chris, Charles, Sherree, Jonathan, Tyler, Rachel, Courtney, Joshua and Erica; 30 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Chatom Church of God. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will follow in Chatom Church of God Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home directing.
