Elsie Rae Baugh Monk, 95, of Grove Hill, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2020. She was born in Grove Hill on November 7, 1925, to Robert and Annie Laura Danzy Baugh. She was a wife and homemaker for forty years, assisting her husband, Francis, in all of his businesses until his death in 1982. She aged gracefully as she progressed from wonderful mother to great, great-grandmother. A devoted member of Bassett Creek Baptist Church, she enjoyed living independently, serving the needs of her family as a wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and was a friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis Monk; son, Robert Monk; grandsons, Daniel Monk, Jason Bylinowski; brother, Clayton Baugh and daughter-in-law, Tommylene W. Monk.
She is survived by her children, Jimmy Monk of Foley, John (Jane) Monk of Duluth, GA, Sarah (Mike) Smith of Fulton, Laura (Stan) Bylinowski of Waynesboro, GA; daughter-in-law, Dianne Monk of Ozark; siblings, Lois Andrews, Laura Cumbie, both of Grove Hill, Robert (Ruby) Baugh of Jackson; twelve grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Grove Hill Town Cemetery with the Revs. Keith Johnson and William Allison officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Donovan, Jack Donovan, Adam Monk, Andy Monk, Matthew Smith and Nicholas Smith.
Her family made a promise to her that she would live with dignity and die peacefully. With the assistance of numerous individuals, her wish was granted. Assisting her family with her care were neighbors, Buck and Betty Bedsole and sitters, Mary Pendleton, Katherine Green, Candace Goodman and Darlene Watters. Southern Care Hospice also played a huge role in making sure that promise was kept.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Bassett Creek Baptist Church for Zeta storm repair, Bassett Creek Cemetery Fund or to the Clarke County Disaster Relief Team in care of the Clarke Baptist Association which has served the needs of local residents during recent disasters.
It is requested that those attending the service to wear a facemask to help prevent the spread of Covid.
