Hitower Hammac

December 28, 1932 ~ August 22, 2020 (age 87)


Hitower Hammac, 87, of Deer Park, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 at his residence. He was born on December 28, 1932 to Jessie Manuel Hammac and Vennie Madden Hammac. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp who served during the Korean Conflict, he had been employed as a teacher and ATF Agent. He was a member of Community of Christ Church in Mobile and enjoyed caring for his herd of cattle. A big family man, he often bragged that the best years of his life were spent at the University of Alabama where he and his wife graduated. As an alumnus, he was an avid fan of the Alabama football program.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine Gwendolyn Baber Hammac and siblings, Julie Mae Wilson, Lucille Hayes, Etha Decker and Hyrum Hammac.

He is survived by his children, Paula Hammac, Lyle Manuel (Kathi) Hammac, Greg (Jill) Hammac, Gwendolyn (Frank) Thornton; grandchildren, Beau Hammac, Brett Hammac, Savannah Hammac, Bragg Hammac, Destin Thornton, Hanna Hammac, Emily Hammac; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Thornton, Addison Thornton and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will host a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Community of Christ Church, 672 Azalea Road, Mobile, AL 36609 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at the family residence at 75 Nursery Road, Deer Park, AL 36529.
