James Alton Murphy, 75, of Grove Hill, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. He was born on Thursday, October 24, 1946 in Grove Hill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a very active member of the Masonic Lodge in Grove Hill and Coffeeville. He had been employed as a paper maker at Boise Cascade (now PCA) prior to retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Murphy, Ida Mae Taylor Murphy; wife, Mary Beasley Murphy; son, Jason Murphy and siblings, Charles Murphy, Herman Murphy and Margaret Murphy Moss. He is survived by his son, James Murphy; grandchildren, Isabelle Murphy (Cody) Higdon, Joey (Jade) Ivey, Michaela Ivey (Tyler) Brown; great-grandchildren, A.J. Murphy, Gracelynn Higdon, Paedyn Ivey, Everlee Ivey; siblings, Janice Muphy, Delilah (Wade) May; special friends that were like his family, Chris, Heidi and Avery Newton and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with the Rev. Mark Guy officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery adjacent to the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ron Beasely, Daryl Dunagan, Cody Higdon, Ray Murphy, Avery Newton and Chris Newton.
