James F. “Jimmy” Tompkins, 66, of Port Allen, LA passed away at his residence on Sunday, September 27, 2020. He was born in Grove Hill on May 11, 1954 to Robert L. “Toots” Tompkins and Margaret Coleman Tompkins. A member of the Church of Addis, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed everything from hunting and fishing to wood working and all types for mechanics. He was an extremely dedicated fan of the University of Alabama football and made it a point to never miss a game. He was a longtime employee of Georgia Gulf. He was a loving father, known affectionately as “Daddy Bug” and devoted his life to care for them.
He had many dear friends and neighbors that were special to him. While he considered two states, Alabama and Louisiana, to be his home, he never truly swapped the red and white for the purple and gold.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both paternal and maternal grandparents, and his older brother, Robert C. “Dr. Bob” Tompkins.
He is survived by his daughters, Jessica Tompkins Hayward, Jaime Lynne (Joseph Julius IV) Bush; grandchildren, Bryce Coleman Sloan, Blain Patrick Sloan, Brinley Grace Hayward; sister Nancy (Woody) Rester; nephews, James Woodrow Rester, Christopher Tompkins; niece, Regan Rousse and numerous other relatives and friends.
