Jay Miller

May 17, 1944 ~ May 5, 2020 (age 75)

Jay Miller, 75, of Grove Hill, AL died on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 in his home. He was born May 17, 1944 in Anderson, Indiana to the late William G. and Catherine J. (Hodson) Miller. Jay spent his formative years in Lapel, Indiana where he excelled in sports, namely basketball and baseball. He served his country in the U.S. Army, having deployed to South Vietnam in 1963. He met and married his now deceased wife, M. Janeen Miller and resided in Ossian, Indiana. He retired after working for General Electric for over 30 years, moving to Grove Hill, Alabama. At his new home, Jay was able to enjoy fishing, wood working, and working out in his yard. The most important thing in Jay's life was his family. A true patriarch, Jay provided sage advice, comfort, knowledge, faith to family, dedication in providing for all, and above everything else, love. Taking all these wonderful aspects of Jay, the part that is most outstanding was his humor. A true master in the art of punning, he could outwit the best of them.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janeen Miller; his grandson, Trent Shelton and his sisters, Maxine Miller and Georgianne Edgren. Survivors include a son, Jayson (Sonya) Miller of San Antonio, TX; two daughters; Dawn (Greg) Kissell, Grove Hill, AL and Angie Miller of Grove Hill, AL; two brothers: Buddy (Rosemary) Miller of Fort Meyer, FL and Truman (Bonnie) Miller of Lapel, IN; two sisters: Janet Hobbs of Anderson, IN and Avis (Ron) Holloway of Anderson, IN; seven grandchildren: Rachael Shelton, Seth Shelton, Jenny (Bebo) Pomales, Nathan (Rylee) Miller, Jayden Miller, and Gracyn Miller; 7 great grandchildren: Kenzi Shelton, Logan Shelton, Rylee Bateman, Sidney Parr, Ivan Pomales, Malaki Pomales, and Todd Miller.

A celebration of life will be held at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. An interment service will be conducted at 1 p.m. at Union Baptist Church of Grove Hill with his son, Jayson Miller and grandson, Nathan Miller, officiating.
